Brimfield Select Board votes to seek free traffic study after Civil War Memorial is hit again. The board voted unanimously at its February 9 meeting to authorize an application to the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission for a no-cost vulnerable roads user study, spurred by a pedestrian struck near Hitchcock Academy and a second vehicle collision in three years with the town's 1866 Civil War Memorial, a monument whose most recent restoration cost roughly $20,000. Historical Commission representative Dr.
Bluett told the board the application deadline is February 15 and that two incidents within a month could give Brimfield's submission a competitive edge. The board also named Vice Chair Crystal McGuire as its Tri-Town CDBG subcommittee delegate and Member Mitch Frazier as its ambulance contract subcommittee delegate, advanced a preliminary FY2027 Select Board office budget holding town counsel at $50,000, and flagged a sharp rise in animal control costs, from $8,240 in fiscal year 2023 to a projected $24,454, with the regional agreement expiring June 30, 2027.
