Select Board Votes 3-2 to Extend Dog Case
Brimfield Select Board split 3-2 to extend a dog nuisance case 16 days rather than issue an immediate order.
Select Board · Meeting of August 24, 2026
Brimfield Select Board split 3-2 to extend a dog nuisance case 16 days rather than issue an immediate order. Members Tom Stewart, Christopher DeBruin and Crystal McGuire outvoted Chair Martin Kelly and member Mitch Frazier to adopt an August 11, 2026 letter giving dog owners and neighbors near 28 East Hill Road until the 30-day mark to propose how to stop nuisance barking from two livestock guardian dogs. One member had raised concerns the original five-hour hearing may have violated state evidence-sharing rules under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 140.
Frazier called the case ready for a final decision: "the five plus hours of discussion... is more than enough." The board separately approved a roughly $9,850-a-year water system operator contract with McClure Engineering and three one-day liquor licenses, abstaining Kelly on one tied to his own neighbor, Cook's Farm Orchards.
