Brimfield Select Board sets August 3 nuisance dog hearings, awards FY2027 contracts

Select Board · Meeting of June 15, 2026

Brimfield Select Board schedules two nuisance dog hearings for August 3 and offers parties a free mediation option before testimony begins. The board voted unanimously Monday to hold separate hearings at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on August 3 at Brimfield Elementary School for complaints tied to properties at 76 Old Palmer Road and 28 East Hill Road, while simultaneously authorizing the Agricultural Commission to offer all parties access to the Collaborative Resolutions Group, a federally funded, confidential mediation service. Agricultural Commission member Brian Treidman told the board that the dogs in question are of livestock-guardian breeds but that Massachusetts law does not extend right-to-farm protections to their off-property behavior.

The board also tabled the building commissioner's reappointment until the town resolves whether online permitting will be required rather than optional, and swept through more than a dozen unanimous FY2027 bid awards covering heating fuel and diesel to Sherman Oil at rack-plus rates, road materials split among Palmer Paving, John S. Lane and Son, RPRB Enterprises, and others, and a road resurfacing contract to Precise Paving under IFB 2026HWY01 — all pending the three-lowest-bidder certification form.
